1971: M.D. Micro Detectors Srl is established on initiative of a professor at the
Technical College of Modena. It straight away establishes itself in the Modenese
ceramic district thanks to the pioneering idea of replacing the mechanical sensors
used by the ceramic industry with Diell photoelectric sensors.
1971-1995: Diell becomes a leading market brand with international fame. The range
of Diell sensors is expanded and now covers not only the purely ceramic field but
also the most varied automation sectors: logistics and handling, mechanical industry,
mining, woodworking, food processing and treatment, tobacco, textiles, leather goods,
shoes, paper, plastic and rubber.
1991: Diell Iberica, the Spanish branch of M.D., is founded.
1995: Marcello Masi, businessman already operating in the iron and steelworking
sector with the company Metalsider SpA of Ravenna, becomes the president and majority
shareholder of M.D. Micro Detectors, which joins the Masi group, of which also Cistelaier
with facilities in Modena and Genoa and Synapto of Catania form part.
2001: The turning point for the corporate brand: MD replaces Diell as brandname.
2002: The Co-design sector of M.D. Micro Detectors is set up for the study and development
of specific integrated applications to be co-designed with the customer: the experience
gained with the standard product becomes the starting point for offering major customisations
in the sensor technologies.
2003: M.D. Micro Detectors Sensores Ltda, the Brazilian branch of M.D., is founded.
Today: M.D. Micro Detectors S.p.A. covers over 12% of worldwide production of cylindrical
photoelectric sensors. The current strategy of M.D. Micro Detectors is focused on
innovation and extension of its expertise, from industrial automation to new sectors.
